I installed Ubuntu on my PowerBook a few days ago, and have been loving it ever since. The GNOME desktop is beautiful, as well as many of the applications that come with or can be added in Ubuntu.
A few current limitations:
- Live boot didn’t work on my particular PowerBook, though it did on a newer model PowerBook.
- I’ve yet to figure out how to get my AirPort Extreme card working.
- Sound does not work; furthermore, many apps that rely on sound spew errors when trying to use it.
- I can’t get my PowerBook to go into sleep mode while booted from Ubuntu.
- The Mac-on-Linux program works with my Mac OS X partition, however I can’t get networking to work.
- It looks like graphics hardware acceleration isn’t working.
Other than these things; everything else seems to be working great.
